2013 knitting-statistics…

If I sum up this years statistics I´ve knitted a lot of hats for myself in fingering weight yarn using 3mm needles, which is not all true….

stat1.1I´ve knitted 26 336 meters this year, which means I´m 5 kilometers short of knitting my way from my hometown to Oslo, the Capital (in air line), and only 1484 meters less than last year…

My knitting this year has created 41 individual finished projects, and some unfinished ones… (I´m not counting in the unfinished ones in the statistics…), which is almost identical to the number of 2012 projects of 42.

My goal for 2013 was to decrease the numbers of knitted gifts. In 2012 46% of the finished projects were for me, in 2013 this number has increased to a great 56%! Which means I´ve reached my goal of more than 50% of ego-projects. Happy!

This year I´ve added more detailed statistics on what type of project, meterage and type of yarn… for my own amusement mostly…

My new years resolution for 2013 was to not buy a single skein of yarn! Ha, ha -did that last long? No, I guess that promise lasted about a month… So this year I won´t make a resolution at all!

Highlights from the 2013 production: (visit my ravelry project page to see more…)

So what are my hopes and guesses for 2014?

I´m guessing I´ll knit a bit less than in 2013…

I hope I´ll be decreasing my stash…

I hope to learn to master the art of spinning…

I hope I´ll be able to dye some more yarn…

Happy New Year to all my fellow knitting-geeks out there! And may 2014 bring new and wonderful knitting-adventures like 2013 did!!

Eureka!

IMG_4064I´ve long wondered what to transform this yarn into…

It´s been brewing on my shelves for several years, and just like that, the perfect project popped up! Love it when that happens! The timing could have been better though, considering my current project(s)….

mslogoThe yarn is «Pan» from Telespinn. Telespinn is a Norwegian spinnery, placed in Flatdal in Telemark. They spinn their own mohair wool, from their own Mohair goats. They provide a lot of nice reading on their web page. Check it out for yourself (in english). I can also recommend their «Mari» yarn.

The great pattern «Tyrolean Stockings» by Ann Budd was published in 2007. www.interweaveknits.com-buddfront300_mediumThese socks will be perfect in «Pan». Can´t wait to cast on.

But why?

My resent endeavour in Selbu-knitting didn´t work out, and now this! My skiing-socks have shrunk! Some would call it bad karma …I would call it plain bad luck!

To some, this will sound like swearing in a church (so just close your eyes if you´re a bit fragile), I wash all my wool in the washing machine! If the wool can´t stand it, -well, then I don´t want it! (except angora of course, and that´s why I don´t own any angora…)

My wool is not superwash, it´s usually 100% pure wool, or wool mixed with alpaca, cashmere, mohair, camel, silk, etc. In my opinion wool comes from sheep, and other animal fibers are …well – other animal fibers. (Silk is a plant fibre.) Textile producers and me are not walking hand-in-hand on this issue, but that´s not my primary concern right now. My skiing-socks are!IMG_3740

My beautiful socks! They´ve kept me warm for miles and miles of skiing, hours and hours of mountain-cabin-after-ski-fun-around-a-board-game, and just sitting around the house in winter time.

I´ve got a fairly cheap washing machine, but it has a good wool-programme. I´ve put my skiing socks in the washing machine many times before. Closed the door and pressed the button, -in good faith.

I knitted my socks in 1997, cut the worn out feet off and knitted new ones in 2008, and they´ve never shown any signs of felting. So why did they felt this time? Did I press the wrong button? -don´t think so because the fellow garments came out all right. Did I use the wrong detergent? -don´t think so because I always use wool-detergent when washing wool. Did I fill the machine too full of wool? – well, maybe? Maybe that´s the case ….

In any case I have to knit my self a new pair. Luckily I have the pattern, and the wool is still avaliable. I´ve previously knitted 4 pairs (including my felted ones + my extra feet), so I know the pattern, and it won´t be that hard …… just booooring!! Why?!
